Question
An 80-liter mixture consists of milk and honey in a 4:1
ratio. If 'a' liters of honey and 20 liters of milk are added to the mixture, the resulting ratio of milk to honey changes to 3:2. Determine the value of 'a'.Solution
ATQ;
Initial milk = 4/5 of 80 = 64 liters
Initial honey = 16 liters
After adding 20 liters milk => total milk = 64 + 20 = 84
After adding 'a' liters honey => total water = 16 + a
New ratio milk : honey = 3 : 2
Hence 84 : (16 + a) = 3 : 2
Cross multiply => 84 × 2 = 3(16 + a)
168 = 48 + 3a
3a = 120
a = 40
