    Question

150 litres of Mixture β€˜A’ (water + alcohol) contains

32% water and remaining alcohol while 112 litres of mixture β€˜B’ (milk + water) contains 20 litres more milk than water. Find the sum of quantities of water in both the given mixtures.
A 90 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 93 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 94 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 97 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Quantity of water in mixture β€˜A’ = 150 Γ— 0.32 = 48 litres Let the quantity of water in mixture β€˜B’ = β€˜x’ litres Then, quantity of milk in mixture β€˜B’ = (x + 20) litres So, x + (x + 20) = 112 Or, 2x + 20 = 112 Or, x = (112 – 20) Γ· 2 Or, x = 46 Therefore, quantity of water in mixture β€˜B’ = x = 46 litres So, sum of quantity of water in both the mixtures = 48 + 46 = 94 litres.
