Question
150 litres of Mixture ‘A’ (water + alcohol) contains
32% water and remaining alcohol while 112 litres of mixture ‘B’ (milk + water) contains 20 litres more milk than water. Find the sum of quantities of water in both the given mixtures.Solution
Quantity of water in mixture ‘A’ = 150 × 0.32 = 48 litres Let the quantity of water in mixture ‘B’ = ‘x’ litres Then, quantity of milk in mixture ‘B’ = (x + 20) litres So, x + (x + 20) = 112 Or, 2x + 20 = 112 Or, x = (112 – 20) ÷ 2 Or, x = 46 Therefore, quantity of water in mixture ‘B’ = x = 46 litres So, sum of quantity of water in both the mixtures = 48 + 46 = 94 litres.
