Question

Mixture ‘A’ contains 80% acetone and rest 64 litres

water. Mixture ‘B’ contains 72 litres acetone and rest 55% water. When two mixtures are mixed, then find the ratio of acetone to water in the resultant mixture.
A 40:19 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 41:17 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 19:17 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 19:40 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E 41:19 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Quantity of water in mixture ‘A’ = 64 litres Total quantity of mixture ‘A’ = 64/0.20 = 320 litres Therefore, quantity of acetone in mixture ‘A’ = 320 – 64 = 256 litres Quantity of acetone in mixture ‘B’ = 72 litres Total quantity of mixture ‘B’ = 72/0.55 = 160 litres Quantity of water in mixture ‘B’ = 160 – 72 = 88 litres Therefore, quantity of acetone in resultant mixture = 256 + 72 = 328 litres Quantity of water in resultant mixture = 88 + 64 = 152 litres Required ratio = 328 : 152 = 41:19
