Question
Mixture ‘A’ contains 50% acetone and rest 32 litres
water. Mixture ‘B’ contains 72 litres acetone and rest 55% water. When two mixtures are mixed, then find the ratio of acetone to water in the resultant mixture.Solution
Quantity of water in mixture ‘A’ = 32 litres Total quantity of mixture ‘A’ = 32/0.5 = 64 litres Therefore, quantity of acetone in mixture ‘A’ = 64 – 32 = 32 litres Quantity of acetone in mixture ‘B’ = 72 litres Total quantity of mixture ‘B’ = 72/0.55 = 160 litres Quantity of water in mixture ‘B’ = 160 – 72 = 88 litres Therefore, quantity of acetone in resultant mixture = 32 + 72 = 104 litres Quantity of water in resultant mixture = 88 + 32 = 120 litres Required ratio = 104:120 = 13:15
