    170 ml of mixture contains milk and water in the ratio

    of 12:x respectively. If 30 ml of water and 40 ml of milk is added into it then ratio of milk to water in the resulting mixture will be 2:1. Find the value of ‘x’.

    Quantity of milk in 170 ml of mixture = 170 × 12/(12 + x) Quantity of water in 170 ml of mixture = 170 × x/(x + 12) According to question; {2040/(12 + x) + 40}/{170x/(x + 12) + 30} = 2/1 Or, 2040/(12 + x) + 40 = 340x/(x + 12) + 60 Or, (2040 – 340x)/(x + 12) = 20 Or, 2040 – 340x = 20x + 240 Or, 360x = 1800 Or, x = 5
