Question
In 99 litres of a mixture (milk + water), ratio of
quantity of milk to that of water in a mixture is 6:5, respectively. (2x + 10) litres of milk and 24 litres of water is added to the mixture such that the quantity of milk in the resultant mixture is 40% more than that of water in it. Find the value of ‘x’.Solution
Initially, Quantity of milk in the mixture = 99 × (6/11) = 54 litres Quantity of water in the mixture = 99 – 54 = 45 litres According to the question, 1.40 × (45 + 24) = 54 + 2x + 10 => 96.6 = 64 + 2x => x = 16.3
