    in the ratio 10:7, respectively. 51 litres of the mixture is replaced with 42 litres of water such that the quantities of milk and water in the resultant mixture become equal. Find the initial quantity of mixture in the vessel.
    A 273 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    B 99 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    C 289 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    D 196 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Let the initial quantities of milk and water in the vessel be 10x litres and 7x litres respectively.
    51 litres mixture contains 30 litres milk and 21 litres water.
    According to question:
    10x – 30 = 7x – 21 + 42
    3x = 51
    x = 17
    So the initial quantity of mixture = 17 × 17 = 289 litres
