Question
A racetrack is in the shape of a rectangle with length
of 45 meters and area of 6030 m 2 . A car takes 16 seconds to make one lap around the perimeter of this track. If the car and a person whose speed is 5.5 m/s, started moving at the same time along the perimeter of the track but in opposite directions, then find the distance between the car and the person, 5seconds before they cross each other.Solution
Area of the track = length of track x breadth of track = 45x breadth of track = 6030 So, breadth of track = 6030 ÷ 45 = 134 So, perimeter of the track = (45+ 134) x 2 = 358meters So, speed of the car = (358/16) = 22.3 m/s Relative speed of the car with respect to the person = 22.3+ 5.5 = 27.8 m/s So, distance between the car and the person, 5 seconds before they cross each other = 27.8 x 5= 139 meters
