Question

A pole got broken by the wind whose top meets the ground at an angle of 30° at a distance of 45 meters from the foot. What was the total height of the pole?

A 45/√3 m Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 45√3 m Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 15√3 m Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 15/√3 m Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

Solution

The broken point of the pole is A and point C is a point where the pole meets at the ground. Total length of the pole = BA + AC BC = 45 tan30° = AB/BC ⇒ 1/√3 = AB/45 ⇒ AB = 45/√3 ⇒ AB = 15√3 Again, cos30° = BC/AC ⇒ √ 3/2 = 45/AC ∴ Total he ight of pole = 15√3 + 30√3 = 45√3 m
