    Question

    If (8x - 3y) = 196 and 7x:4y = 35:16, then find the

    value of (x² + 4y²).
A 4,281 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 4,361 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 4,425 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 4,517 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Given, 7x:4y = 35:16 Or, 7x × 16 = 4y × 35 Or, 112x = 140y So, x:y = 35:28 = 5:4 So, let the values of 'x' and 'y' be '5k' and '4k', respectively. ATQ, (8x - 3y) = 196 Or, 8 × 5k - 3 × 4k = 196 Or, 40k - 12k = 196 Or, 28k = 196 So, 'k' = 7 Therefore, values of 'x' and 'y' are 35 and 28, respectively. So, (x² + 4y²) = (35² + 4 × 28²) = (1225 + 4 × 784) = (1225 + 3136) = 4,361 Hence, option b.
