Question

As we go up in the mountains, one finds it difficult to breathe. Which of the following is the reason behind?

A With decrease in temperature, air becomes denser at higher latitudes. Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B The air becomes thinner at higher altitudes. Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C The air pressure is low at higher altitudes. Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D Both (b) and (c) Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

Solution

· Atmosphere exists in layer around the earth. Due to stratification and gravity, the density of air decreases as we go up in the mountains. Air becomes thinner at higher latitudes and therefor one finds it difficult to breathe as one goes up. This is because of low pressure i.e. lesser air pressing down from above.
