Virupaksha Temple, a shrine of Lord Shiva, is a very important religious as well as the tourist destination. It was built in the 7th century and is located in the village of Hampi. It is one of the most famous temples among the various other temples of Hampi. All heritage sites of Hampi have been recognized by the UNESCO. Shiva in the form of Virupaksha is the consort of local goddess Pampa and that is why the temple is also called Pampapathi temple.
