The Paramhansa Sabha established in 1849, was the first socio-reliogious reform group founded in Bombay. The Paramhansa Sabha or the Paramhansa Mandali was started by Durgaram Mehtaji, Dadoba Pandurang and a group of his friends. Dadoba Pandurang assumed leadership of this organisation. Pandurang outlined his principles in the Paramhansik Bramhyadharma. It acted as a secret society. The Sabha believed in monotheism and fought for abolition of caste discrimination, women's education, child marriage, widow remarriage, etc. Hence, we can conclude that Paramhansa Sabha was the name of the reform movement of 1849 in Maharashtra
