What is the maximum penalty for contravening the provisions of the Equal Remuneration Act, 1976?

The Equal Remuneration Act, 1976 is an Indian legislation that prohibits discrimination in remuneration on the basis of gender. It applies to all establishments, whether in the public or private sector, where ten or more persons are employed. and it imposed a fine which shall not be less than ten thousand rupees but which may extend to twenty thousand rupees or with imprisonment for a term which shall be not less than three months but which may extend to one year or with both for the first offence.
