    Question

    A hollow closed cube of side 10 cm, each weighing 200

    gm, is made. This cube is placed in water with a horizontal face. How many cm of its height sinks in water if the density of water is 1 gm per cm°?
    A 1 cm Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    B 1.5 cm Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    C 2 cm Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    D 2.5 cm Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Weight of cube = Weight of Water displaced Weight of cube = 200 g Let cube sinks for d cm. Surface area of face = 10 x 10 = 100 cm² => Volume of water displaced = 100 x d cm³ Density of water is 1gm/cm³ Density = weight / Volume => Weight of water displaced = 100d x 1 = 100d g Equate both weights, => 100d = 200 => d = 2 cm Hence, 2 cm of cube height sinks in water.
