    institute is in the ratio of 5:8 respectively. If 90 more faculties join Physics, while 48 more faculties join Biology, the respective ratio becomes 3:4. Originally what was the total number of faculties in both together?

    Solution

    Let the original number of faculties in Physics and Biology be 5x and 8x respectively According to the question,   => (5x + 90)/(8x + 48) = 3/4 => 24x + 144 = 12x + 360 => x = 54 Original number of faculties = 5x + 8x = 13x = 13 × 54 = 702
