The Appointments Committee of Cabinet, on April 22, 2022, appointed Suman K. Berry as the vice-chairman of NITI Aayog who will take charge from May 01, 2022. Mr. Berry was earlier the Director-General of the National Council of Applied Research (NCAER). He has also served as a member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, the Statistical Commission and the Technical Advisory Committee of the Reserve Bank of India on Monetary Policy. He has been appointed following the sudden resignation of former Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar. Rajiv Kumar got the post of Vice Chairman of the Commission five years ago in August 2017. He had replaced Arvind Panagariya. The NITI Aayog was formed in January 2015 by abolishing the Planning Commission. The Chairman/Chairperson of NITI Aayog is the Prime Minister of the country while Mr. Amitabh Kant serves as the CEO of NITI Aayog.
