    Person aged 7 yrs or more who can read and write with understanding in any language is considered literate. The 15th national census was conducted in 2011 and shows improvement in overall literacy rate by 9.21% as compared to 2001. According to Census 2011, literacy rate of India in 2011 is 74%; literacy level in males was approximately 82.14% while that for females stood at 65.46%. Increase in literacy rates for males and females stood at 6.88% and 11.79% respectively as compared to 2001.
