स्वर-संधि के पाँच प्रमुख भेद होते हैं: 1. दीर्घ-संधिः जब दो स्वर मिलकर एक दीर्घ स्वर (लंबा स्वर) का रूप धारण करते हैं। उदाहरण: "नदी" + "के" = "नदीके"। 2. गुण-संधिः जब एक स्वर का गुणात्मक परिवर्तन होता है, जैसे अ + आ = आ। 3. यण-संधिः जब स्वरों के मिलन से 'य' का प्रयोग होता है। उदाहरणः "मूल" + "आकर्षण" = "मूलाकर्षण"। 4. अयादि-संधिः इसमें स्वर के बाद आने वाले स्वर के कारण परिवर्तन होता है। उदाहरण: "नदी" + "के" = "नदीके"। 5. कृदंत-संधिः जब क्रिया से उत्पन्न होने वाला प्रत्यय किसी स्वर के साथ मिलकर स्वर परिवर्तन करता है। उदाहरण: "चल" + "इसी" "चलीसी"।
