UPSC EPFO EO/AO Recruitment Test Exam Pattern

The Recruitment Test (RT) for the UPSC EO/AO posts is a two‑hour, pen‑and‑paper exam consisting of 120 objective‑type questions. Candidates may choose to attempt the paper in either English or Hindi.

UPSC EPFO EO/AO Recruitment Test Syllabus

UPSC EPFO EO/AO Interview

The UPSC EPFO Personal Interview is the second and final phase of selection, to be held at a venue and on a date that the UPSC will intimate separately. Shortlisted candidates must bring a printout of their online application along with all original documents for verification on the day of the Interview. 

Marks obtained in the UPSC Interview carry a weightage of 25% toward the final merit; candidates are assessed out of 100 marks during this stage. 

To qualify for the Interview, candidates must meet category‑wise minimum standards: General/EWS – 50 marks, OBC – 45 marks, SC/ST/PwBD – 40 marks (out of 100). Moreover, they must achieve the prescribed cut‑offs in both the Recruitment Test and the Interview to be considered for appointment. 

The UPSC contributes toward travel expenses for attending the Interview, reimbursing candidates at Second Class Mail Railway fare (or actual fare, whichever is less) for the shortest route to the interview venue. Details of this reimbursement are provided with the Interview call letter. 

Candidates who perform exceptionally well in the Interview may be granted a higher initial pay within the prescribed scale, at the discretion of the Commission. 

UPSC EPFO EO/AO Marking Scheme

To ensure accuracy and discourage guessing, the marking scheme applies a one‑third negative penalty: for every incorrect answer, 0.25 marks are deducted. Unanswered questions neither gain nor lose marks.

Performance in the RT carries a weightage of 75% toward the final selection score.

There are no section‑wise cut‑offs—the final RT score is considered in aggregate.

Based on overall merit, candidates who meet the minimum qualifying threshold (as per their category) are shortlisted for the Interview stage, which contributes the remaining 25% to their final ranking.
