Important Points to Remember<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For the SBI PO Prelims exam, out of 35 questions, 23-24 questions will be asked from the below mentioned first 4 topics. The remaining questions will be from Arithmetic Word Problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some calculation tricks that you must know if you are appearing for the SBI PO exam are provided below. These tricks will definitely help you in increasing your speed and you will be able to attempt more questions in the exam. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trick #1 <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Square of the numbers ending with 5.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We can find the Square of any number whose last digit is 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just write 25 in the end & multiply the digit ahead of 5 to its next place & put the product before 25. Simply you will get the final answer<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It means, n52<\/sup> = n(n+1)\/25<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, 452<\/sup> = 4\u00d75\/25 = 2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n

552<\/sup> = 5\u00d76\/25 = 3025<\/p>\n\n\n\n

652<\/sup> = 6\u00d77\/25 = 4225<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1052<\/sup> = 10\u00d711\/25 = 11025<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trick #2 <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Square of numbers near to 50.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the number is more than 50, then<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

(50+n)<\/strong>2<\/sup><\/strong> = (25+n)\/n<\/strong>2<\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the end n2<\/sup> must have only 2 digits. If it has only 1 digit like 32<\/sup> =9, we will write it as 09.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If it has 3 digits like 122<\/sup> = 144 then write 44 in the end only & carry 1 in (25+n)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It means 532<\/sup> = (50+3)2<\/sup> = 25+3\/32<\/sup> = 2809<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

522<\/sup> = (50+2)2<\/sup> = 25+2\/22<\/sup> = 2704<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

562<\/sup> = (50+6)2<\/sup> = 25+6\/62<\/sup> = 3136<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

622<\/sup> = (50+12)2<\/sup> = 25+12\/122<\/sup> = 37\/144 = 37+1\/44 = 3844<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

642<\/sup> = (50+14)2<\/sup> = 25+14\/142<\/sup> = 39\/196 = 39+1\/96 = 4096<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the number is less than 50, then<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

(50-n)<\/strong>2<\/sup><\/strong> = (25-n)\/n<\/strong>2<\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the end n2<\/sup> must have only 2 digits. If it has only 1 digit like 32<\/sup> =9, we will write it as 09.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trick #3<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

(100+n)<\/strong>2<\/sup><\/strong> = (100+n+n)\/n<\/strong>2<\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the end n2<\/sup> must have only 2 digits. If it has only 1 digit like 32<\/sup> =9, we will write it as 09.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If it has 3 digits like 122<\/sup> = 144 then write 44 in the end only & carry 1 in (100+n+n)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It means 1032<\/sup> = (100+3)2<\/sup> =100+3+3\/32<\/sup> = 10609<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

1022<\/sup> = (100+2)2<\/sup> =100+2+2\/22<\/sup> = 10404<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

1062<\/sup> = (100+6)2<\/sup> =100+6+6\/62<\/sup> = 11236<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

1122<\/sup> = (100+12)2<\/sup> = 100+12+12\/122<\/sup> = 124\/144 = 124+1\/44 = 12544<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

1142<\/sup> = (100+14)2<\/sup> = 100+14+14\/142<\/sup> = 128\/196 = 128+1\/96 = 12996<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the number is less than 100, then<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

(100-n)<\/strong>2<\/sup><\/strong> = (100-n-n)\/n<\/strong>2<\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some Other Tips <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
  1. Memorize squares upto 50 (minimum 30)<\/li>
  2. Memorize cubes upto 20<\/li>
  3. Memorize multiplication tables upto 20<\/li>
  4. Percentage to fraction conversion and vice versa<\/li>
  5. Practice DI\/Simplification\/Approximation\/Number Series and Quadratic equations problems every day. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    How to Approach Quantitative Aptitude section.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
    1. Try to solve the easy problems first and then gradually move to the Moderate\/Difficult ones. <\/li>
    2. In continuation with the last point, attempt questions from Approximation\/ Simplification, Quadratic Equations and Number Series first as these take comparatively lesser time. <\/li>
    3. Don\u2019t spend undue time on analyzing the pattern of the number series, just give it a quick read and if you get the pattern go ahead, otherwise skip and move to next.<\/li>
    4. Attempt DI only if you have practiced well. If you haven\u2019t practiced enough, try to solve the rest of the questions first and then move into this section as it can be quite time-consuming.  <\/li>
    5. Don\u2019t spend too much time on one question. If you don\u2019t know the answer, move on to the next. <\/li>
    6. Accuracy is key. While it is important to answer as many questions as you can, it is imperative that you answer these questions correctly to score marks. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        8, 17, 36, 75, ?, 313<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Solution: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

        8 \u00d7 2 + 1 = 17<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        17 \u00d7 2 + 2 = 36<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        36 \u00d7 2 + 3 = 75<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        75 \u00d7 2 + 4 = 154<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

        154 \u00d7 2 + 5 = 313<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Answer: 154<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

        1.  <\/strong>\u2018n\u2019 men working 18 hours a day can complete a work in 24 days while (5n \u2013 4) men working 12 hours a day can complete the same work in 9 days. In how many days can (n + 4) men working 6 hours a day complete the same work?<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          Solution:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          According to the question,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          (n \u00d7 18 \u00d7 24) = {(5n \u2013 4) \u00d7 12 \u00d7 9}<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Or, 4n = 5n \u2013 4<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Or, n = 4<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Let the number of days taken by (n + 4) = 8 men be \u2018x\u2019 days<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Therefore,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          (8 \u00d7 18 \u00d7 24) = (8 \u00d7 6 \u00d7 x)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Therefore, x = 72 days<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Answer: 72 days<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

          1.  A man invested Rs. 2x and Rs. 4x at 10% simple interest and at 5% compound interest (compounded annually) for two years respectively. Difference between simple interest and compound interest received after two years is Rs.680. Find the value of x.<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

            Solution: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

            According to the question,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            => [4x (1.05)2<\/sup> \u2013 4x] \u2013 (2x \u00d7 10 \u00d7 2)\/100 = 680<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            => [4.41x \u2013 4x] \u2013 (4x\/10) = 680<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            => 0.1x = 6800<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            => x = Rs. 68000<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Answer: Rs 68,000<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

            1.  Average of present ages of A and B is 30 years. Ratio of age of A to age of B, after 10 years will be 7:9, respectively. What will be the ratio of their ages 5 years ago?<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

              Solution: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

              Let, present age of A is \u2018x\u2019 years<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              Present age of B = 30 \u00d7 2 \u2013 x = \u201860 \u2013 x\u2019 years<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              According to question;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              (x + 10)\/(60 \u2013 x + 10) = 7\/9<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              Or, 9x + 90 = 490 \u2013 7x<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              Or, 16x = 400<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              Or, x = 25<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              Desired ratio = (25 \u2013 5) :(60 \u2013 25 \u2013 5) = 20:30 = 2:3<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              Answer: 2:3<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
