In the 2025 notice, the candidate had to be between 21 and 30 years of age as on November 01, 2025. That meant a birth date between November 02, 1995 and November 01, 2004. So a General candidate who is 29 at the cut-off date is on the final eligible year: the next birthday takes them past the limit.

The same notice relaxed the upper limit for some categories. The table below applies those relaxations to the 2025 dates so you can see how a last attempt works for each category. The birth-date column is our own calculation from the notice, so treat it as an illustration of the method and recalculate with the cut-off date in whichever notice you apply under.

Category (2025 notice)

Upper age relaxation

Earliest birth date at the 2025 cut-off

General

None

November 02, 1995 (age 29 at the cut-off is the last year)

OBC (eligible applicants)

3 years

November 02, 1992 (age 32 at the cut-off is the last year)

SC / ST, where posts are reserved

Up to 5 years

November 02, 1990

PwBD, General

10 years

November 02, 1985

PwBD, OBC / SC-ST

13 / 15 years

November 02, 1982 / November 02, 1980

The notice also offers no cumulative age relaxation beyond what it lists. So the working rule is simple: find your category, find the cut-off date in the notice, and count backwards from it. If you are 29 as a General candidate or 32 as an OBC candidate at that date, you are on your final year under the 2025 rule.

How the NABARD Grade A stages reward your marks

This is the part most last-attempt candidates skip. The notice lays out four phases, and they are not equal

Stage

Structure in the 2025 notice

What it means for you

Phase I (Prelims)

200 marks, 120 minutes. Merit section: General Awareness 20, Economic and Social Issues with focus on Rural India 40, Agriculture and Rural Development with emphasis on Rural India 40.

Merit section marks alone decide your Mains shortlisting. Eighty of the 100 merit marks come from two subjects. The qualifying section only has to clear its cut-offs.

Phase II (Mains)

Paper I: General English, descriptive, 3 questions, 100 marks, 90 minutes, typed. Paper II: Economic and Social Issues and Agriculture and Rural Development, 30 objective questions for 50 marks in 30 minutes, plus a descriptive part for 50 marks in 90 minutes (6 questions, attempt 4).

You type your answers on a keyboard. You can write the descriptive part in English or Hindi. Typing speed and writing structure matter as much as knowledge.

Psychometric test

Mandatory, MCQ based, 90 minutes.

You must appear in it to reach the interview shortlist.

Interview

50 marks.

Phase II and the interview together decide final selection and ranking.

NABARD Grade A Rules That Shape Your Plan

Three more details from the notice shape a last-attempt plan. First, every wrong answer in Phase I and Phase II costs one fourth of the marks of that question, so guessing is not free. Second, cut-offs apply in two stages, on individual tests and on the total score, and NABARD prepares merit lists discipline-wise. Third, the calling ratio is a maximum of 1:25 for the Mains and 1:3 for the interview, so the Prelims cut-off is a gate, not a score you carry forward.

These details change how you read a Prelims score. A high total with weak merit marks can still miss the Mains shortlist. A modest qualifying score that clears every cut-off costs you nothing. So track your merit-section marks separately in every mock, and treat the qualifying scores as pass or fail checks.

Build your NABARD Grade A Plan Backwards from Mains

Because Phase I only shortlists and the final rank comes from Phase II and the interview, build the plan backwards from the Mains. This sequence follows that logic. It suggests an order of effort, not a timetable, so adjust it to the months you have.

Lock down the merit section first. Economic and Social Issues and Agriculture and Rural Development carry 80 of the 100 merit marks. Build these two subjects first and keep General Awareness as a steady daily habit. The NABARD Grade A syllabus page lists the topics under each.

Keep the qualifying section at the cut-off line, not above it. Reasoning, English, Computer, Quant and Decision Making only need to clear their cut-offs. Use short, regular practice rather than long sessions, and check your sectional scores in mocks to see which one is at risk.

Start typed descriptive practice early. The Mains descriptive papers need typing, so practise on a keyboard under a timer from the first month. Write for the six-question format of Paper II, where you attempt four, and keep one typed answer a day. Do not leave this for the last six weeks.

Test your NABARD Grade A plan with mocks and cut-offs

Practise with a penalty in mind. Attempt full-length tests the way you will in the exam, skipping questions you are not reasonably sure of. Keep the last stretch of your plan for them instead of assuming you will fit them in after the written results.

Fit NABARD Grade A preparation around a full-time job

If you work, the aim is not more hours but fewer wasted ones. Put your best hours behind Economic and Social Issues and Agriculture and Rural Development, and use commute and break time for General Awareness and the qualifying-section practice that needs short bursts. Reserve one fixed block each week for a full test and its review, because a test you do not review costs a week and teaches almost nothing. A simple weekly rhythm helps.

Spend weekday evenings on one merit subject at a time. Use one weekend morning for a full-length test. Use the other for review and for a typed descriptive answer. Keep one evening light, so you can rest and avoid burnout. This weekly rhythm is only a suggestion, so change it to match your shifts and travel time. Block these slots in your calendar each week.

Choose structured help for NABARD Grade A preparation

Our guide to choosing the right NABARD coaching explains what to look for if you decide structured help is worth it, and a one-to-one session can help you test the plan itself. The notice relaxed the limit by 3 years for eligible OBC applicants, up to 5 years for SC/ST candidates for reserved posts, and 10 to 15 years for PwBD candidates depending on category. It offered no cumulative age relaxation beyond that list.

Is 29 my last attempt for NABARD Grade A?

For a General candidate under the 2025 rule, 29 at the age cut-off date was the final eligible year, because the next birthday takes you past 30.
