One of the most common modes used for transportation in India among all the three available options is via road. The development of roads comes under the Ministry of Roads Transport and highways which is currently headed by Shri Nitin Gadkari<\/strong>. Roads in India are constructed and managed by the\u00a0National Highway Authority of India\u00a0(NHAI),<\/strong> the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL),<\/strong> and the\u00a0Public Works Departments\u00a0(PWD)<\/strong> of state governments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) <\/strong>is an agency under the jurisdiction of the Government of India. NHAI<\/strong> was set up in 1988 under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) Act, 1988, Section 16 of Parliament. It is responsible for the maintenance, development, and management of Highways of the network. The total length of National Highways increased from around 91,287 km in 2014 to about 142,126 km in 2019. The current chairman of NHAI is an IAS officer Mr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu<\/strong>. He is serving as a Chairman in NHAI since October 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In today\u2019s article, I have listed down all the national highways currently operating in India along with their length and route. This topic will help you to fetch 1 to 2 marks in the examinations. Please note down all the highways I have listed below and make a schedule to revise it on a weekly basis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
