OSCARS Information

The Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars Awards are given every year for artistic and technical merit in the Film Industry. The awards are an international recognition for excellence in cinematic achievements and given by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences or AMPAS. The winners are awarded a copy of a golden statuette, called the “Academy Award of Merit”, depicting a knight rendered in the Art Deco style. The awards are given in 24 different categories.

                    Recently the 92nd Academy Awards was held on 9th February 2020 at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, Los Angeles, US. The event was televised live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide and covered by American Broadcasting Company or ABC which is a commercial broadcast radio and television network owned by the Disney Media Networks. The award also remembered many talents that lost their lives in the year 2019 and as a touching tribute, Billie Eilish performed the song “Yesterday”.

Some Important Points

• PARASITE, became the first non-English language film to win the best picture award. It is also the first South Korean movie to win this award. In total, the movie bagged four Oscar in different categories.
• Brad Pitt won his first Oscar in the acting category though nominated many times. In total this was his second Oscar.
• Eimear Noone, the first female conductor on the Oscars has conducted a medley of the Best Original Score nominees.
• Janelle Monae opened Oscars 2020 with a rousing performance.
• Tom Hanks (two time Oscar Winner) had announced the Los Angeles addition of a museum honouring the love and labor of motion picture making.
