India, officially known as The Republic of India is a country in South Asia. It is the second-most populous country in the world after China. By area, it is the seventh-largest country around the globe. It is covered by the Indian Ocean on the south, the Arabian Sea on the southwest, and the Bay of Bengal on the southeast. India shares land borders with Pakistan to the west, China, Nepal, and Bhutan to the north and Bangladesh and Myanmar to the east. In the Indian Ocean, India shares maritime borders with Sri Lanka and the Maldives. Today’s article is about the neighbouring countries of India. Pakistan

Pakistan is a country situated in the west of India. It is a South Asian country with a coastline along the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman. The total area of the country is 7,96,095 sq km. The Indian states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Jammu, and Kashmir, and Punjab share their borders with Pakistan. Pakistan was born from the Indian Subcontinent around the same time India got its independence from British rule. It celebrates its Independence Day on August 14, 1947. At the time of Independence Pakistan was formed into two territories I.e. East Pakistan and West Pakistan. These two territories were not only geographically but also culturally apart from each other. After a long conflict between these two, in 1971 a civil war occurred, in the result of which Bangladesh was formed. West Pakistan lying on the northwest of India became the Republic of Pakistan and East Pakistan became Bangladesh.

China

China, officially known as the People Republic of China is situated in East Asia. It is the most populous country in the world followed by India. It spans over an area of 95,96,960 sq km. The President of China is the head of the state and the Premier of China is the head of the government. China lies to the north of India. Indian states that share their borders with China are Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Currently, China is one of the fastest-growing economies of the world. Both countries are connected by the Silk Road initiative and the exchange of Buddhism religion.

Nepal

Nepal, officially known as the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal is a landlocked country in South Asia. Nepal a country which is located in the Himalayas lies to the northeast of India. In terms of area, Nepal is not blessed with very large land and spans over an area of 1,47,181 sq km which is 93rd position around the world. Nepal shares borders with China, Bangladesh, and India. The capital of Nepal is Kathmandu which is also the largest city in the country. Nepal has eight of the world’s ten tallest mountains, including the highest point on Earth, Mount Everest. With the most scenic view and soothing climate, tourism is one of the most significant features of the country.  The major economy of the country runs with Agriculture. The majority of the industries in the country are involved in the making and processing of agricultural products. Nepal is a multiethnic country and the official language of the country is Nepali.

Bangladesh

Bangladesh officially called the People’s Republic of Bangladesh is a country situated in South Asia. With India, Bangladesh shares one of the longest borders in the world. Bangladesh has a parliamentary democratic system of government and the capital of Bangladesh is Dhaka. Indian states of Assam, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya, and West Bengal share their border of Bangladesh whereas, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna, Rangpur, and Sylhet are the Bangladeshi states that share their borders with India. Bangladesh is the eighth-most populous country in the world (161 million) and also one of the most densely-populated countries in the world. It is in 92nd position in terms of land/ area spanning across 147,570 square kilometers followed by Nepal. It shares land borders with India to the west, north, and east, Myanmar to the southeast, and the Bay of Bengal to the south. Bangladesh was initially a part of Pakistan and was known as East Pakistan but after the 1971 Liberation War took place, it gained independence and declared as Bangladesh.

Bhutan

Bhutan is a country situated to the north of India. It is officially known as The Kingdom of Bhutan and shares a border with the Indian states of Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Assam and West Bengal. It is a landlocked country in South Asia and spread over an area of 38,394 sq km. Thimphu is the capital of Bhutan. The dominant religion practiced by the population of the country is Buddhism followed by Hinduism. The country has a constitutional monarchy. The country also has a Prime Minister who holds the executive powers of the nation. The major contributors to the economy of the country are Hydropower, agriculture, forestry, and tourism.

Myanmar

Myanmar, officially known as The Republic of the Union of Myanmar is situated in East Asia. With a coastline along the Bay of Bengal, Myanmar shares its border with the Indian states of Nagaland, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur. Area wise it is spread over 6,76,578 sq km and is the largest of the Mainland Southeast Asian states. Naypyidaw is the present capital of Myanmar. Myanmar is surrounded by India and Bangladesh to its northwest, China to its northeast, Laos and Thailand to its east and southeast, and the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal to its south and southwest. The country is governed by the presidential republic with a bicameral legislature. The head of the state is the president of the country. The highest practicing religion in the country is Buddhism.

Afghanistan

Afghanistan, also known the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is a neighbouring country of India located in Central Asia. India it shares its border with various countries including China, Iran, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.  The total area of the country spread across 6,52,230 sq km. Islam is the predominant religion in the country and the major dependence of the economy is on Agriculture. The main industrial activities in the country include the manufacturing of cotton textile, woolens, woven carpets, and handicrafts.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka which is officially known as the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka lies near the southern area of India and is separated by Palk Strait. Sri Lanka enjoys two capital, the commercial capital of the country is Colombo where on the other hand Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte is its legislative capital of the country. The president is the chief of state and the head of government in the country.  It is located in the Indian Ocean to the southwest of the Bay of Bengal and to the southeast of the Arabian Sea. Sri Lanka practices multiple religions and has various ethnic groups and languages. Being an island nation Sri Lanka is a choice of many and makes a pleasant tourist destination in the world.

Maldives

Maldives is an island nation situated in the southwest of India officially the Republic of Maldives. It is consists of a double chain of 26 atolls. Area wise it is one of the smallest countries in the world. It is spread over 298 sq km only.  Maldives has more than a thousand coral islands. Maldives is a presidential republic and the president is the head of the state. The major pollution preaches Islam in the country and Dhivehi is the official language of the country. The capital of Maldives is Male which is also one of the most populous cities and also known as King’s Island.
