NBEMS Exam Pattern

NBEMS has released a notification for various posts under the Central Government. This notice also outlines the exam pattern for the said exams. There will be two stages of the written examination- Stage 1 and Stage 2. Let us understand both stages in detail.

Stage 1

The first stage will comprise of a Computer-Based Test (CBT) in which 200 questions will be asked. Each question carries 1 mark. This paper can be attempted in English or Hindi.

Post Level of Paper
Junior Assistant10+2 level paper
Senior assistantGraduate level common paper
Junior accountantGraduate level common paper

The syllabus for written examination (Stage 1) is provided below:

Section NameMarks Per QuestionsNo. of Questions
General Intelligence & Reasoning150
General Awareness150
Quantitative Aptitude150
English Comprehension150
Total4200

Normally, for other competitive exams, the time given to solve a 200-mark paper is 120 minutes. In this exam, candidates will be given 180 minutes to solve 200 questions. Please note that since there is negative marking you must not make any blind guesses. While all other factors remain common the level of assessment for Junior Assistant will be easier because Higher Secondary students can also apply.

Also note:

  • There will be a negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer in CBT.
  • The minimum qualifying marks will be 50%.
  • The cut-off for reserved categories will be 40%. As you can see, the time given to solve this paper is excessive.

Stage 2

Stage 2 will be a Knowledge/Skill Test that will be assessed for 100 marks. The time allotted is 75 minutes. Candidates will be given a 500-word passage which they will be asked to produce in their own words in 15 minutes. Aspirants must make note of the fact that only 5 candidates against each vacancy in each category shall be called to participate in this exam. Once candidates have cleared the cut-off, based on merit five candidates against each vacancy will be called to appear for Stage 2.  For example, if there are 7 vacancies, then a total of 35 students will be allowed to sit for the Stage 2 exam. This will be decided based on merit wherein the top 35 candidates who have scored passing marks will be allowed to sit for the exam. This is why it will not be enough to only make the cut-off in Stage 1. Candidates must ensure that they score well enough to make it to the head of the merit list.

The test will assess topics on Data Entry, Word Processing and Computer Operations. The cut-offs for Stage 2 will be the same as Stage 1, i.e., 50% for the General category and 40% for reserved categories. Unlike Stage 1, Stage 2 can only be attempted in English. The Schedule for the Computer Knowledge/Skill Test has not yet been announced. It will, however, be uploaded on the website in due time.

NBEMS Exam 2021: Previous Year Cut-off

The last year’s cut-off for Senior Assistant was 165.50 and for Junior Assistant was 148.75. Since the number of vacancies are the same as last year, then for SA you should try to score around 175-180. Similarly, for Junior Assistant 160+ should be targeted.

NBEMS Exam Application Fee

The application fee for Unreserved and OBC is ₹1500+ 18% GST which comes to around ₹ 1770. For SC/ST/PWD and women, the application fee has been waived.

NBEMS Exam Final Merit List

The final merit list for the posts shall be prepared on the basis of total marks obtained by the candidates in the CBT (Stage 1) and Computer Knowledge/Skill Test (Stage 2) which will determine their position. The Board has decreed that in case two or more candidates secure equal marks, the candidate older/oldest in age shall be given precedence.
