Indian Coast Guard Day- February 01

The Indian Coast Guard Day is celebrated every year on February 1.

The year 2020 marks the 43rd raising day of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). The force protects India’s maritime interests by enforcing maritime law over the territorial waters of India.
The ICG operates under the Ministry of Defence. Though the force was formally established on August 18, 1978, by the Coast Guard Act, 1978, but the interim ICG was established on February 1, 1977, to prevent sea-borne smuggling of goods.
For effective command and control, the Maritime Zones of India are divided into five Coast Guard Regions – North-West, West, East, North-East and Andaman & Nicobar. There are currently 42 Coast Guard stations along the coastal line of the country. Along with this, the force also has five air stations and 10 air enclaves.

World Wetlands Day- February 02

Celebrated annually on 2 February, World Wetlands Day aims to raise global awareness about the vital role of wetlands for people and the planet.
The Day also marks the date of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands on 2 February 1971, in the Iranian city of Ramsar on the shores of the Caspian Sea.
Today’s World Wetlands Day under the theme, ‘Wetlands and Biodiversity,’ is an opportunity to highlight the importance of wetland biodiversity conservation.
The significance of wetland biodiversity was stressed recently by the global IPBES assessment which identified wetlands as the most threatened ecosystem. This impacts 40% of the world’s plant and animal species that live or breed in wetlands.

National Deworming Day- February 10

The National Deworming Day is being observed across the country on 10 February
Children and adolescents in the age group of 1-19 years will be administered a single dose of a safe medicine Albendazole in all states and Union Territories on the occasion.
Organized by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the objective of the day is to deworm children and adolescents to reduce the prevalence of parasitic worms in the intestine. It ensures that the worms are no longer a public health problem.

World Pulses Day- February 10

On 20 December 2013, the UN General Assembly (UNGA) adopted a resolution to proclaim the year 2016 as the “International Year of Pulses (IYP)”. The day aimed to recognize the value of pulses. World Unani Day- February 11

This day is celebrated every year to mark the birth anniversary of great Unani scholar and social reformer Hakim Ajmal Khan. He was an eminent Indian Unani physician who was a versatile genius, a great scholar, a social reformer, a noted freedom fighter, a Unani medical educationist and founder of scientific research in Unani System of Medicine. He was one of the founders of the Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi.

International Day of Women and Girls in Science-February 11

On 11 February, the United Nations will mark the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
This year the theme is ‘Investment in Women and Girls in Science for Inclusive Green Growth.
In order to achieve full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls, and further achieve gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, the UN General Assembly adopted resolution A/RES/70/212 declaring 11 February as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

In India National Women’s Day is celebrated on February 13, the day Sarojini Naidu was born in 1879. She was vocal about women’s rights, women’s suffrage rights, etc. Thanks to her struggles, the Indian National Congress agreed for the Universal Suffrage in 1931.
Sarojini Naidu, born in Hyderabad and educated in Cambridge was the powerful face of Women in the Indian Independence struggle. Indian Nightangle Sarojini Naidu shines both as an activist and as a poet. In 1925 Sarojini Naidu became the president of the Indian National Congress. Sarojini Naidu was one of the forefront leaders who led the Civil Disobedience Movement and the Quit India Movement.
She rewrites the history by becoming the first woman to hold the office of Governor in the Dominion of India.
For Women’s Rights, suffrage and representation in organizations and assemblies she established Women’s India Association in 1917. Given the exemplary work she did for the upliftment and empowerment of women in India, poet, and politician Sarojini Naidu’s birthday is regarded as Women’s Day in India.

World Social Justice Day-February 20

World Day of Social Justice or World Social Justice Day is observed on February 20 every year.
To raise voice against social injustice and to remove barriers regarding gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion, culture or disability World Social Justice Day is observed.
