Important Days for the Month of January

General Awareness section is one of the important sections asked in the Banking and other competitive exams. Having a firm grip on the General Awareness section gives an edge over others in the exam. This section needs a consistent effort as it has a vast syllabus. In banking exams the majority of the questions that are asked from this section are from Current Affairs. So, it is essential to be updated with the current happenings of at least last 6 months. By analyzing a set of pattern of the previous banking exams, it is noted that one question related to the important days asked in the exam. So, in order to help candidates with this part, we have started this series of important days with themes (month wise) starting with the month of January. Following are the List of important days of the month of January with themes.

World Braille Day- January, 04:

World Braille Day is an international day on 4 January and celebrates awareness of the importance of braille as a means of communication in the full realization of the human rights for blind and visually impaired people.

 The date for the event was chosen by the United Nations General Assembly via a proclamation in November 2018. The first World Braille Day was celebrated on January 4, 2019.

The day is marked remembering the birth anniversary of Louis Braille, the inventor of Braille – for people with visual disabilities.

Louis Braille was born on 4th January 1809 in the town of Coupvray in Northern France. At the age of just 3, he lost both his eyes in an accident. This resulted in the invention of the language of 6 dots- which is popularly known as braille.

Journalist Day -January, 06

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra state celebrates the Journalist Day on January 6th every year in the memory of late journalist Balshastri Jambhekar.

Balshastri Jambhekar, is also known as ‘The Father of Marathi Journalism’, for his efforts in starting journalism in Marathi language.

The first newspaper in the Marathi language named ‘Darpan’, was published on January 6, 1832, the date which also marks his birth anniversary.

16th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas- January, 09

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas was celebrated on 9 January. The day is celebrated every year to mark the contribution of overseas Indian community in the development of India.

It also commemorates the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa to India on 9 January 1915.

Established in 2003 the celebratory event is organised by the Ministry of External Affairs every year on this day

World Hindi Day- January, 10

World Hindi Day was celebrated on 10 January. The day is commemorated every year with the objective to promote use of Hindi language abroad. Special functions are being organized to mark the occasion.

 On this day in 2006, the First World Hindi Conference was organized in Nagpur to promote the language worldwide.

National Youth Day 2020: January, 12

National Youth Day was celebrated with the theme ‘Channelizing Youth Power for Nation Building’ on 12 January.

National Youth Day is celebrated in India when there was a Birthday of the Swami Vivekanand.

Nation celebrates 72nd Army Day on 15th January. The 72nd Army Day is being celebrated across the country on 15th January.

It is celebrated every year to commemorate the day when General (later Field Marshal) K M Carriappa took over the command of Army from General Sir F R R Bucher, the last British Commander-in-Chief in 1949 and became the first Commander-in-Chief of Indian Army post Independence.

Fourth Armed Forces Veterans Day- January, 14

The 4th Armed Forces Veterans Day is observed on 14 January every year. The day is observed as a mark of respect and recognition of the services rendered by Field Marshal KM Cariappa OBE.

The day acknowledges and honours the selfless devotion and sacrifice of the veterans in the service of the nation.

 The Armed Forces Veterans Day is observed each year on 14 January since 2017.

Marshal KM Cariappa OBE is the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Armed Forces who retired on 14 January 1953.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) celebrate 145th Foundation Day on 15th January The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is celebrating its 145th Foundation Day.With a humble beginning in 1875, the IMD has marched forward with various milestones and paradigms to serve the society

National Immunization Day – January 19, 2020

National Immunization Day (NID) also known as ‘Polio Ravivar’ was observed on January 19, 2020. The Pulse Polio Programme 2020 was conducted as a part of National Immunization Day across the country, which aims to protect children less than five years from Polio disease and to eliminate Poliomyelitis in India.

This year nearly 17.4 crore children across the country were administered under the programme. Puducherry chief minister Narayanasamy also launched the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) in Puducherry.

In India, Pulse Polio Immunization Programme was launched in 1995. As per the reports the last cases of wild polio in India were in West Bengal and Gujarat on January 13, 2011.

On March 27, 2014 the World Health Organization (WHO) declared India a polio free country.

NDRF celebrates its 15th Raising Day

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) celebrated its 15th Raising Day on 18th January.

 The force has earned good name and fame nationally and internationally with its selfless service and unmatched professionalism in disaster management.

Since its inception in 2006, NDRF has saved more than one lakh lives in its 3100 operations and rescued/evacuated over 6.7 lakh people during disasters.

NDRF has so far imparted training to more than 4000 volunteers and has a target to give training to more than 70000 volunteers by 2024 at the local levels in different parts of the country.

National Girl Child Day 24 January 

The aim of this celebration is to create awareness in the society about the rights of daughters and to provide new opportunities to the daughters for their social and financial development.
 
Apart from Girl child day, Women and Child Development Department will also celebrate National Girl Child Week from January 24 to 30.
 
 International Day of Education- 24 January 2020

International Day of Education 2020 was celebrated on 24 January.
 
The theme was “Learning for people, planet, prosperity and peace”.
 
The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 24 January as International Day of Education, in celebration of the role of education for peace and development.
 
The 2020 celebration will position education and the learning it enables as humanity’s greatest renewable resource and reaffirm the role of education as a fundamental right and a public good. It will celebrate the many ways learning can empower people, preserve the planet, build shared prosperity and foster peace.

National Voters’ Day celebrated on 25th Jan


The 10th National Voters’ Day has been celebrated on 25th Jan.
 
 The theme this year is ‘Electoral Literacy for Stronger Democracy’.
 
 It sets the tone for year-long activities focusing on voter education and renewal of citizens’ faith in the electoral process. The Day is celebrated since 2011 to mark the Foundation day of Election Commission of India, which was established on 25th January 1950.

Nation celebrates 71st Republic Day on 26th January


Nation celebrated the 71st Republic Day on 26th January with a grand military parade and exhibition of its history, cultural diversity and strategic weaponry at the Rajpath in the National Capital.
 
President Ram Nath Kovind unfurled the tricolour and took the salute of the parade.

World Martyr’s Day: January 30.

January 30 is celebrated as Martyr’s day on the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi also known as the Father of the Nation.

This day is celebrated as Martyr’s day because Gandhi ji was assassinated on this day (January 30, 1948) by Nathuram Godse.

On this day Prime Minister, President, Vice President, Defense Minister, and the head chiefs gather at Raj Ghat Memorial to pay a tribute to Bapu.
