With the prelims done, start focusing on your IBPS SO Mains exam right away. Do not waste time to know about your prelims results before you start preparation for the Mains exam. This is especially true for students who are unsure of their prelims results. Since you are appearing for the post of a Specialist Officer, the Mains exam should be a cakewalk as you would have already specialized in the post applied for during your graduation days.
The Mains exam tests your professional knowledge in either of the 5 fields: Agriculture field officer, Marketing officer, Law officer, I.T. officer or HR/Personnel officer. There are 2 tests for the post of Rajbhasha Adhikari; professional knowledge objective and professional knowledge descriptive. The paper, except for Rajbhasha Adhikari post, is of 45 minutes with 60 questions which means that you have 45 seconds per question. You should divide the set of 60 questions into 3 subsets; easy, moderate and difficult. Easy questions will be the ones which you can attempt accurately within little time. Moderate questions will be those where you are sure about your accuracy but these questions will take a little longer to solve. The difficult questions are those where you are not sure.
Hence your strategy should be to attempt the easy questions first, then moderate questions and then try the difficult ones. Don’t do any guess work as the exam has negative marking. Practice as many mock tests as possible to understand the exam pattern well. Once you understand the exam pattern you will be able to build up on speed. In the last week before the IBPS SO Mains exam practice previous years’ question papers to understand the topics which are most asked, although, this may not be a good indicator since IBPS keeps on changing the topics weightage.
